Exogenous ketones
Exogenous ketones can raise blood beta-hydroxybutyrate quickly, but current human evidence does not show a reliable boost to exercise or cognition.
In adults, ketone esters and ketone salts reliably increase blood beta-hydroxybutyrate, and acute supplementation often lowers glucose. However, small human trials and a systematic review do not show consistent improvements in endurance or cognitive performance. Evidence for metabolic flexibility, long-term benefits, electrolyte effects, and finished-product claims remains limited.
