What caffeine is actually doing
Caffeine is a stimulant found in coffee, tea, cocoa, energy drinks, some medicines, and many performance products. Its most familiar effect is increased alertness, which can make a demanding task feel easier for a while.
That short-term lift is not the same as extra energy or recovered sleep. Caffeine can change how effort feels while leaving the underlying need for rest untouched.[1]

Exercise performance has the clearest case
An umbrella review of 21 published meta-analyses found that caffeine can improve several exercise outcomes, including aerobic endurance, muscle endurance, strength, power, jumping, and speed. The evidence was generally moderate for some outcomes, but not every analysis gave a consistent direction and many studies involved young men.
